Meet Jana Gilbert, The Engineering Groupe, Inc.
Jana, please tell us about your company.
The Engineering Groupe, Inc. (TEG) has been exceeding expectations in the Northern Virginia civil engineering field for over 31 years. TEG strives to stay ahead of the curve in all aspects of our work – from conducting initial land planning studies to managing engineering and surveying projects to construction administration and project closeout – superior client service is at the forefront of all that we do. TEG staff includes experts from both the public and private sectors representing an entire spectrum of services to enable us to embrace total responsibility of a project throughout its life cycle. Upholding our original goal – superior client service – keeps TEG ahead of the curve.
When and why did you join NVBIA?
The Engineering Groupe, Inc. (TEG) was founded in 1990 and became a member of the Builders’ Association that year. Our founder, Skip Groupe knew the value from participating with his prior affiliations and wanted TEG to reap the same benefits.
What is the value of NVBIA to your company?
We consider the advocacy component to be a great asset. As a member of NVBIA, we are also a member of the Home Builders Association of Virginia (HBAV) and the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). The 3-in-1 membership provides representation at the Federal, Commonwealth and local levels. Over the years these efforts have addressed many concerning issues and resulted in significant savings for our industry.
How are you involved in the association?
Participation develops wonderful relationships with members. I am the Vice President – Associates. In addition, I have become involved with the Membership Committee, Retention Committee and Ambassador Program. I also enjoy participating in the Women in the Building Industry (WBI) and the WBI Community Service Committee.
What is something you would say to a future member about NVBIA?
I would encourage a future member to take part in of all that NVBIA has to offer and stress the importance of their participation. To achieve the benefits of an organization one must be actively present. Join a committee, attend the wide variety of networking events to meet members of our industry and develop relationships. Also, to take advantage of the educational pillar through seminars and training classes to enhance skills and knowledge on a wide variety of topics.
When you have 30 minutes of free time, how do you pass the time?
I enjoy walking in my neighborhood parkland with my sweet Golden, Cooley!
Please share your favorite quote:
“The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched – they must be felt with the heart.” –Helen Keller
If you were stuck in a tv show for a month, which would it be and why?
It would be Yellowstone … a month in Paradise Valley, Montana would be an extraordinary experience. My daughter and son both live there so I typically spend a couple weeks during the year in Montana … a month would be amazing. I will say that it would have to be sometime between May and September!
